Local Area & Attractions

The house is situated in MONTAGNAC SUR LEDE a peaceful village in the stunning sunflower-strewn area of the LOT et GARONNE yet within easy driving distance of the reputable wine-growing areas of BORDEAUX, ST EMILION, BERGERAC and CAHORS.

In her book 'A House in The Sunflowers' Ruth Sylvestre describes perfectly how she chased her dream to find a house in this idyllic part of France. The area is steeped in history and the Cadogan Guide to the Dordogne & The Lot gives an interesting potted account from 400,000BC to the present day. 10km away from the village is the beautiful 13th century bastide town of MONFLANQUIN listed among the 'most beautiful villages in France' where in August each year you can participate in a variety of special 'Medieval Days'. Many local towns hold a market but a particularly large one is held weekly at MONSEMPRON-LIBOS.

Close by are the impressive chateaux of BONAGUIL and BIRON and within easy reach the DORDOGNE with its glorious scenery, castles, canoeing and medieval towns including ROCAMADOR and SARLAT. The cave paintings of LASCAUX are well worth a visit as is the pottery museum at ST. AVIT.
